How do German businesses view digitising government?

Germany is digitising. There’s no doubt about that anymore. And once again, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce surveyed German businesses on where things currently stand — and got two different answers.

Businesses consistently rate their own digitisation well. But they still don’t rate the state’s. Businesses give German administration a grade of D-minus — in other words, only just adequate. That has to improve if Germany wants to become competitive again.

But what exactly bothers businesses? They’re old topics: the inadequate and too-slow rollout of fibre-optic networks and fast mobile standards. But also the regional patchwork of administration, with different systems, platforms and digitisation progress depending on the state and municipality.
