“AI adoption has accelerated broadly, and unevenly, across countries and sectors.”

That’s one of the core findings from the very first Independent International Scientific Panel on AI at the United Nations. AI is here, and keeps spreading further: more than a billion people already use AI every week. But the spread is very uneven globally. People in the Global North in particular use AI, while the Global South is lagging behind. If you look at AI development, the inequality gets even bigger. Almost all major AI models come from the US or China. Other countries barely feature. That’s not good — especially not for Germany. Because it’s not enough to just use AI — we also have to develop it. And ahead of everyone else, at that!
