Utah!
Not California, Florida, New York or Texas. But why is that, and what can we in Germany and Europe learn from Utah?
In Utah, digitising government isn’t tried out — it’s steered:
- One-stop government: Utah.gov as THE single point of contact for all citizen matters
Citizens of Utah no longer have to ask themselves which authority is responsible for what, or even communicate with several authorities at once about a single topic. There’s one platform for all matters. Simple, logical, human-centred.
- Product thinking instead of project logic
Digital government services are understood as permanent products that are continuously operated, improved, and taken responsibility for. Unlike project logic, responsibility doesn’t end at go-live — it only starts there.
- User-centredness as an efficiency and trust factor
Understandable, simple digital processes reduce follow-up questions, error rates, and processing times. At the same time, users’ trust in the state’s ability to deliver increases.
- Iterative approach instead of waiting for perfection
Digital solutions are made usable early and improved step by step, instead of waiting years for complete perfection. That reduces risk, speeds up learning, and increases actual impact.
The decisive point:
Utah invests less in spectacular innovation, and more in reliability, standards, and operations.
Would you like a single platform for all authorities too?
