Something’s moving in the Wild West of digitisation.

While the EU now regulates AI and its use through the Data Act, the United States has so far been sceptical, as usual. Republicans in particular resisted a federal solution. Instead, individual states passed their own rules. But more and more civil lawsuits against AI companies, and various court rulings, are increasing the pressure. Now, for the first time, senators from both parties have come out in favour of a unified solution. For companies that also want to profit from digitisation globally, that mainly means one thing: uncertainty. Because whether, when, and if so which rules will apply will be decided over the coming months. And those rules could then upend planned business models all over again. So for digitisation in the US, the motto right now is: wait and see what the laws end up looking like.
