No crystal ball required. Just AI! Singapore is currently running an interesting experiment in government: can AI help identify problems that nobody has spotted yet?
It sounds a bit like Minority Report. But unlike the film, this isn’t about crime — it’s about social problems. And about finding solutions BEFORE the consequences escalate.
The basis is data that’s already being generated today:
- Citizen enquiries
- Complaints
- Service ratings
- Contact centre data
- Digital feedback channels
AI systems analyse this information and look for patterns:
- Is the number of certain complaints suddenly rising?
- Are problems piling up around a particular administrative service?
- Is a new bottleneck emerging in a region?
Traditionally, such developments only become visible once they’re already big enough to attract political attention. AI could help react much earlier.
What’s exciting about this: we’re not talking about automation here. We’re talking about awareness. The state doesn’t get faster. It gets more attentive.
Exciting idea or dystopia? What do you think?
